we

Merche and I were living in Barcelona with our daughters, Paula and Berta. Merche was working as a freelance in decoration magazines, I had an advertising agency… and we both wanted to get out of all that and change our lives. In 1992, during a vacation in Cabo de Gata, we had given shape to the dream: ‘A beach bar in Almería’. Ten years later, without looking for it, Sa Rascassa appeared…
It was a holiday home built in 1916, which later became the house of the guardian of the property, then a holiday camp and, from 1994, a diving center with restaurant and rooms.
It was in Aiguafreda, a tiny cove whose owners urbanized in the beginning of last century, when it was still private property, giving it that special character it still retains. Surrounded by forests and very poorly built, the cove has barely changed in a hundred years; quite unusual in the Costa Brava.
Obviously, we fell in love with it and, although we had no experience at all with hotels and restaurants, we sold everything and came to live in Begur. It was 2002, our daughters were nine and two, and we were forty.
Some years have passed, we have learned much, and we keep working to make you feel at Sa Rascassa as at a good friend’s house.
